Palos Heights firefighter Chris Vacek works to keep fire under control Wednesday morning during a controlled burn in the Buzz and Bloom Prairie at the Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens. The burn, which will help combat invasive plants and encourage native plant regrowth, was conducted by Chief Naturalist Bill Banks, Executive Director Bill Sullivan and volunteer Ed Borkhuis. Other firefighters assisting were Capt. Rich Czajkowski, Rick Hulsey and Chief Jack Nagle. <br />
